How The Group Works

First and foremost, your first visit to the group is completely free. You will receive one of the cigars of the month, and get to meet the members and get a feel for what the group is about. If you choose to join for the year, here is what you get with your $50/year contribution to the group:

  • Free Cigar of the Month (averaging out to a little more than $4 per stick)
  • Golf Outing in Summer – optional event with additional expenses separate from monthly dues (excuse to have cigars with a bunch of cigar/golf people)
  • Christmas Party at The Chop House with Toys 4 Tots fundraiser with US Marines (dinners, drinks and cigars are paid for by group with dues)

Will be in town during last Wednesday of July. Will you be meeting at Landing near Ann Street? Plus I’ll be staying at the Amway Grand Plaza. Are the any good places to purchase cigars near that location?

    • John says:

John, I am given to understand our meeting for July is to be held at one of our member’s homes, as well as the August meeting. Details for those to events will come soon. The gatherings ay Holly’s Landing on Friday’s is an informal event – no invitation needed, come as you are, hope it does not rain. Hope to see you there if you can make it.

As far as local cigar shops, the only real one close to downtown is Buffalo Tobacco Traders on Fulton and Diamond. It is about 1 1/2 miles from downtown – which is not an awful walk if the weather is nice. As far as smoking downtown is concerned, the only place available now is the Chop House, which is right across the street from the Amway on the Ionia side. They do have a humidor there with a sparse selection and are somewhat pricy. But they will allow you to bring in your own if you wish, and are more than happy to serve you drinks and appetizers all night. As I said, this is right now the ONLY place downtown that I know of that will let you smoke cigars (they do not allow cigarettes, however.) They have good food as well.

Would the Grand Rapids Cigar Society be interested, if a new Speciality Cigar Store were to open up in downtown Grand Rapids, with a lounge and possibly a “Members Only” Lounge? I am looking for support for this endever and thought I would ask if your members would support something like this.
Also, I am in need of a “letter of support”, this would help me in securing financing with the bank knowing there was support for this type of business from other.
Oh, and about the need for a “Smoking Exemption” to be able to smoke in the store, I have one.

Or…. GR Cigar Society members are invited to enjoy a relaxing smoke at Tuttle’s Select Cigars’ ample smoking lounge. Its a 17-year old business but is under new, very friendly ownership; just ask for Mark. Tuttle’s is on 28th St. in the same building as Hooters. It boasts the city’s largest walk-in, cedar-lined humidor plus 3 more freestanding humidors. All are very well-stocked and the selection of fine cigars & pipe tobaccos is awesome! (I’m partial to Ashton 40 myself.) Hope to see you there!
